Curing Steelhead Eggs
By Lenny Frasure
As steelhead season progresses into colder weather, many anglers will be using cured roe to entice a bite from these wily seagoing trout. While there are various methods to cure steelhead eggs, some cures definitely work better than others.

Calico Salmon
by Dave Vedder
As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so too is the choice of an angler's favorite game fish. For me the choice is easy; the Chum salmon wins hands down. The Chum wins for its numbers, strength and cooperative attitude. Where these calico sided battlers are found, they can be easily caught. That is perhaps the Chum's most endearing attribute. They are willing participants in the anglers game.

Equipment for outdoors people that are disabled ©

Throughout each year we outdoors people take time to thumb through various catalogs in search of exciting equipment. While many may not intend to make a purchase, we find it interesting just to see what is new for an upcoming season.

A Montana Sampler
Montana. Just mentioning the name conjures up visions of a wild, uncrowded, untamed land. The real west. A land of wide-open spaces, cowboys and Indians, the Rocky Mountains and, of course, trout.

Calimari Anyone?
by Shawnie Vedder
Calimari is the Italian name for squid. I could not find a professional author that dared to write about something as "uncool" as squid fishing so I wrote this one myself (grin). Since I am the editor I can do that.

Hoods Canal Chum Salmon
Slowly, the foam dink float meandered downstream. 10 feet later, it dove under. Reeling up the slack and setting the hook simultaneously, my fishing rod telegraphed violent head shaking and then ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ the drag screamed and it was off to the...

Bonefish and Belikin
Bonefish are silver ghosts that glide across tropical reefs in unexplored wilderness haunts. Jittery fish that spook when a pelican's shadow crosses their path, bonefish are the ultimate saltwater game fish.

Clover Bay Floating Lodge©

Right now, fast-and-furious salmon fishing is happening at Clover Bay Lodge, Alaska. This floating lodge, neatly tucked in a secluded estuary on Prince Wales Island, is near Ketchikan.
